NANKANA SAHIB, November 2025 — The District Education Authority (DEA) Nankana Sahib has officially announced a three-day holiday for all public and private schools in honor of the 556th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism.
Schools to Stay Closed from November 4 to 6
According to a notification issued by the Chief Executive Officer (DEA Nankana Sahib) on November 1, 2025, all schools within the district limits will remain closed from November 4 to November 6.
The order applies to both government and private institutions, including Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School, MC Girls High School, Fatima Jinnah Girls High School, and several primary schools in Canada Colony, Purani Abadi, Shaheed Kot, and nearby localities.
University Holidays Also Announced
In addition to schools, Baba Guru Nanak University will also remain closed from November 3 to November 6. The decision was made to ensure smooth management of the city during the large-scale religious celebrations. Authorities expect a high number of visitors during this period, and traffic control and safety arrangements have been put in place accordingly.
Thousands of Pilgrims Expected to Arrive
The annual birth anniversary celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji attract thousands of Sikh pilgrims from around the world. This year, over 2,100 Indian devotees have been granted special visas by the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi to participate in the festival.
Nankana Sahib, being the birthplace of Baba Guru Nanak, holds immense spiritual value for Sikhs globally. Devotees gather every year to offer prayers, attend religious ceremonies, and celebrate the teachings of peace and unity spread by Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Security and Facilities for Visitors
The district administration has completed all necessary arrangements to ensure a safe and organized environment during the event. Police, rescue services, and municipal teams have been placed on high alert.
Dedicated routes for pilgrims, medical camps, parking zones, and temporary accommodation facilities have been set up across the city.
Officials have also instructed all schools and colleges to strictly follow the holiday schedule and cooperate with law enforcement and management teams during the celebrations.

With all preparations finalized, Nankana Sahib is ready to welcome pilgrims from Pakistan and abroad. The city is set to host one of the most significant religious events of the year, celebrating the message of peace, tolerance, and harmony preached by Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
