The Punjab government has announced a modern traffic monitoring and penalty system inspired by Dubai’s advanced road management model. This new setup aims to reduce reckless driving and improve overall road safety across the province.
License Points System Approved
As part of this initiative, Punjab has approved a license points-based system that will directly affect drivers who repeatedly break traffic laws. Under the new rules, every traffic violation will cost a driver between 2 and 4 points on their license.
If a motorist loses 20 points within a single year, their driving license will be suspended for a period ranging from two months to one year, depending on how serious and frequent the violations are.
How the System Works
Traffic authorities explained that this points-based approach is meant to hold habitual offenders accountable. Common violations such as overspeeding, signal jumping, or wrong-way driving will result in a deduction of four points each, along with regular traffic fines.
For smaller offenses — such as parking violations or not wearing a seatbelt — two points will be deducted. The more points a driver loses, the higher the risk of suspension.

Officials trust that linking financial consequences with license results will have a stronger effect on driver behavior. The aim is not best to acquire fines but also to inspire drivers to follow visitors’ legal guidelines greater carefully.
