Pakistan’s New Oil and Gas Discoveries 2025 – A Boost for Energy Independence

Published on:

Pakistan has made important oil and gas discoveries in 2025, mainly in Sindh and Punjab. These discoveries will help the country reduce dependence on imported fuel and increase local energy production.

Major Discoveries

1. Ghotki, Sindh – MPCL
Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) found a new oil and gas site at the Mari Ghazij CFB-1 well. The well is producing about 305 barrels of oil and 3 million cubic feet of gas per day, adding a strong boost to Pakistan’s energy supply.

2. Tando Allah Yar, Sindh – OGDCL
Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) discovered oil at the Chakar-1 well. It produces 275 barrels of oil per day, and further potential has been identified in nearby rock formations, opening opportunities for more exploration.

3. Potwar Region, Punjab – PPL
Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) found a major site at the Dhok Sultan-03 well. The well initially produced 1,469 barrels of oil and 2.56 million cubic feet of gas daily, later increasing to 2,113 barrels of oil and 4.13 million cubic feet of gas. This is one of the deepest oil discoveries in the region.

4. Sujawal, Sindh – Jhamp East X-1
PPL also found oil and gas at the Jhamp East X-1 well in Sujawal. It produces around 10 million cubic feet of gas and 150 barrels of light oil per day. Gas from this site is now supplied through Sui Southern Gas Company, helping stabilize Pakistan’s gas supply.

Government Support and Future Plans

The government is encouraging more exploration, including offshore areas along Pakistan’s coasts. Investors are offered better pricing for oil and gas production and incentives for exploring challenging sites, attracting both local and foreign investment.

Conclusion

The 2025 oil and gas discoveries are a big success for Pakistan’s energy sector. They help the country move toward energy independence, create jobs, bring in investment, and strengthen the economy.

With continued exploration in Sindh, Punjab, and offshore areas, Pakistan is moving closer to self-reliance in energy, promising a more secure and brighter future for the nation.
