E-Challan System Starts in Punjab to Improve Traffic Management

Published on:

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has officially launched the e-challan system in Gujranwala, marking another major step in expanding digital traffic enforcement across Punjab. This modern system aims to make traffic management smarter, safer, and more transparent for all road users.

What is the E-Challan System?

The e-challan system is a digital traffic monitoring system that uses advanced cameras to detect violations automatically. It replaces many manual traffic checks with a high-tech, camera-based method to catch violations like:

  • Driving without a helmet or seatbelt
  • Using fake or missing number plates
  • Breaking traffic signals or other road safety rules

Each violation is automatically recorded, and a challan (fine ticket) is sent directly to the offender’s registered phone number via SMS.

Gujranwala Joins Punjab’s Smart Traffic Network

After cities like Lahore and Faisalabad, Gujranwala is now part of the PSCA’s growing network of “Safe Cities.” Over 1,066 high-definition cameras have been installed across the city to keep a close eye on traffic in real time.

According to a PSCA spokesperson, these cameras were already helping law enforcement track suspects in robbery and theft cases. Now, they will also be used to improve road safety by recording traffic violations.

System Tested and Ready

SP Safe City Authority Gujranwala, Irfan Salhriya, shared that the e-challan system was tested for two months before its launch to fix any technical problems. “From today, e-challans are being issued, and traffic violations are monitored 24/7,” he said.

He added that the manual challan process by traffic wardens will continue but will now be supported by this automated system. Those who ignore or delay paying their fines may face double penalties or legal action.

Promoting a Culture of Obedience and Safety

SP Salhriya urged drivers to follow traffic laws strictly. He emphasized that the cameras are highly accurate and will ensure that no violator escapes detection.

The PSCA believes that the e-challan system will not only reduce traffic violations but also make roads safer and more organized for everyone. With Gujranwala joining the initiative, Punjab is one step closer to building a modern, disciplined, and smart traffic management system.
