Pakistan’s head coach Mike Hesson has expressed full confidence in star batter Babar Azam, saying he expects him to make big scores very soon. Despite a below-par performance in the recent series, Hesson believes Babar’s form and technique remain strong.
“Babar Is Technically Strong,” Says Hesson
Speaking to reporters, Hesson praised Babar’s skills, calling him a technically sound batter. He said that there is no weakness in Babar’s game, and he continues to bat with good rhythm and control.
“Even though his scores were low in the ODI series against South Africa, his batting approach and shot selection were impressive,” the coach said. “He played the ball well, found gaps, and stayed positive at the crease.”
Temporary Dip in Form
Hesson described Babar’s current phase as a temporary dip in form. He added that the former captain is “very close to scoring big runs again” and that such periods are normal for top players.
“I’ve been very happy with the way Babar has been playing,” Hesson said. “Sometimes, you play well but don’t get big scores — that doesn’t mean there’s a problem. His timing and intent are excellent.”
He also noted that Babar handled pressure situations well, especially when Pakistan lost early wickets.
Advice for Babar Azam
According to Hesson, Babar should not worry too much about converting every start into a big score. Instead, he should focus on his rhythm and decision-making while batting.
“In the first match, the ball stayed a little low, and that cost him his wicket,” Hesson explained. “In the third game, he played beautifully under pressure but was unlucky to get run out. He’s in good touch, and soon those small starts will turn into big innings.”
Recent Series and Upcoming Matches
Babar Azam scored a total of 45 runs in three ODIs against South Africa, with an average of 15 and a strike rate of 78.94. Despite his low scores, Pakistan made history by winning their first-ever home ODI series against South Africa.
The star batter will next be seen in action against Sri Lanka, as Pakistan prepares for a three-match ODI series starting November 11 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
